Welcome Guest Blogger and Author Catrina Taylor

Welcome Catrina Taylor of Xarrok.com ! I’m so happy to have you here on my blog and offering some great tips on Marketing ourselves as  Authors. The is platform is yours….

Becoming a writer is easy, being successful enough to earn a living from it is a whole other story.

In today’s industry, millions are diving into the self publication ‘craze’ and generating pages upon pages of stories. Some are stories retold from history, others are original with strong undertones of previously established situations, but all of them are the blood, sweat and tears of their creators. Well, the good ones are anyway.
Independent artists of all forms have been faced with challenge after challenge establishing their name and style as a brand. Authors have not been untouched. Unlike in the days of the big publishing house powerhouse, authors are able to move directly into conversation with the readers, giving them more flexibility and personality than a big publisher. This appeals to many readers and authors.
Social media has become an empowering resource when it is used correctly. How can an author use this correctly? The answer to that question is far simpler than most realize. I’m including a few simple tips to getting started. You will find that they are only the beginning and that utilizing social media to enable you is as much a learning process as life, but the tips below give you a solid foundation to build from.
1 – DO introduce yourself when the opportunity presents.
–    >Do not introduce yourself with links to your books, links to your facebook fan page, or fan group.
2 – DO jump into conversation that fits your personality, knowledge, experiences
–    > Do not make each conversation about your book, links, facebook fan page, or group
3 – DO ask questions of those you interact with, and respond with honest answers.
–    > Do not make the questions constantly about your book, facebook fan page, or group (peppering them in at times is fine)
4 – DO suggest other people’s work (this could be writing, services, knowledge, exercise methods and any variety of other things you may encounter)
–    > Do no make the suggestions only about your work, achievements, books, fanpage.
5 – DO find out what the person you’re talking to is about. (what are their interests? Hobbies? Work?)
–    > Do not make that conversation about you

Keeping the conversation lighthearted, friendly and personal lends personality to you and your product. This brings people who enjoy your time into your world. This interaction will lead to opportunities to discuss what you do, how you do it and how you bring your work before the world. It also means that when the opportunities present themselves to you, you will be able to discuss the information with someone who is genuinely interested in you and your work.
