Virginia author, Ann Snizek, is about to release the first novel of her new series: To Eris – Human (Payton Chronicles Book 1) in both eBook and print through Snow Flower Publishing.
Eris Payton believes she’s going insane when she meets Nelson — a lucent — a being that has always been invisible and silent to humans — until Eris. Lucents have innate abilities to manipulate living energy. When his brother falls ill, Nelson brings Eris news of her estranged dad, the acclaimed geneticist Dr. Payton. What makes Eris so special? What will she find? Will she be able to cope with the largest upheaval her life has ever seen?
Eris Payton believes she’s going insane when she meets Nelson — a lucent — a being that has always been invisible and silent to humans — until Eris. When his brother falls ill, Nelson brings Eris news of her estranged dad, the acclaimed geneticist Dr. Payton. Nelson not only introduces Eris to a world she didn’t know existed by taking her to Downside, but to people who accept her for who she is. It isn’t as easy as that though.
Lucents have innate abilities to manipulate living energy. Another ability, although difficult, dangerous, and rarely preformed, is to merge their DNA with a human to save that person’s life. The two literally become one, known as a hybrid. Nelson became a hybrid only a few months ago and still has his own demons to fight. Dr. Payton also became a hybrid — years ago when he mysteriously disappeared — and has disappeared again after he established a quarantine. But what does this have to do with Eris?
The lucents’ unique DNA leaves them vulnerable to viruses that humans don’t even know about, and it is one such virus that has spread through the lucent communities. However, according to detailed notes left behind by Dr. Payton, the specially engineered DNA that makes Eris able to see and hear the lucents while remaining human also holds the key to curing the epidemic that has devastated the lucent population. Will she be able to cope with the largest upheaval her life has ever seen?
What People Are Saying

OMG! It is 4 am and I just now finished this book. And when you have two kids (ages 5 and 1) you know staying up all night to finish a book knowing your kiddo’s get up early that it has to be truly awesomesauce let’s put it this way, if the second one was out already I would be reading it right now. The characters are relatable and I just love everyone except Eris’ “step-mom”
This book is totally different than any other kind of paranormal book I’ve read. But Ann officially has me hooked. Definitely in my top 5 favorites of 2013 so far. I cannot wait for the second book to come out! she def has me hooked like a fish lol!
Clip From To Eris – Human:
Ashley’s eyes widened and her voice trembled. “There was no one around taller than Steve. You couldn’t possibly know that shirt. He’s been gone for… You only moved in two weeks ago. You couldn’t have seen it.” Her hands began to shake and she glanced around nervously.
“Sure I did,” I said. “I’ve seen him several times before, and he walked right by you most of the way back here,” I couldn’t understand why Ashley had such a reaction to my question, or description.
She shook her head fiercely in refusal and backed away from me. I noticed the look of fear, pain, and guilt collect on her face before she turned and ran across the lot to her apartment.
“Good going Eris,” the other girl said in a hushed, but obviously debasing voice. “Matt disappeared a month before you moved here. No one has seen him, or heard from him since,”
“Who’s Matt?” I asked.
“Ashley’s older brother,” she said. “He got into a fight with their parents and took off one night. I don’t know how you found out about his shirt, but that was pretty cruel of you to do that to Ashley. Especially after all she’s done for you. She’s the one that wanted to include you in our group. I gotta go.” She took off before I could say anything else. The sting in this girl’s voice and the look on Ashley’s face stunned me into silent immobility.

Ann Snizek, author
I grew up in Vermont mostly and now live in Virginia with my family (those still at home). My husband and I have a blended family of seven kids. My childhood was spent moving around a lot. (non-military) About five years ago, we started home-schooling our youngest children. Now there are only two remaining in home-school. I have tried to nurture the love of books in our children and now our grandchildren — always nurturing their imaginations. Recently, I have become active in our community with literacy, starting a local (and online) creative writing club and volunteer tutoring at the Adult Learning Center.
I struggle with disabilities. So, have to be careful not to overdo things… I don’t always listen to my own advice. I have a dry, sarcastic and corny sense of humor and always try to look at things optimistically. (again not always successful) However, I feel that if I don’t give up — for long — then things will work out for the best eventually.
